Cool climate, new world Pinot Noir from the apple isle, Tasmania.
With a label that pays more than enough homage to those apple crate roots. Fun stuff.
Beautiful Isle is the product of David and Cynthia Feldheim – I had the pleasure of standing next to David at a recent trade event in Melbourne and their range of wines are really cool.
Nothing too fancy (despite the label claiming ‘fancy Tasmanian wine’) and nothing too overdone, but in saying that the range isn’t a bunch of ‘simple’ wines, they carry a pretty nice level of complexity.
This Pinot comes in with a pale ruby red with some very slight garnet edges – somewhat surprising given how young the wine is. Pretty typical cool climate Pinot nose – strawberries, raspberry and red cherry the primary fruit characters with a touch of earth/forest floor and then some lifted florals – perhaps lavender – and a slightly spicy note
Great structure with good acidity and tannins to match – nothing is overdone here. Perhaps on the lighter end of medium bodied and then straight into those same red fruit characters with some dried herbs, rose petals and an oh, so sweet cedar character. Everything singing through the finish effortlessly.
RRP is around $28 a bottle which is probably spot on.
