A mixture of gratitude and sadness today.

Gratitude that, as a stroke of luck, our move out to Milbrodale meant we were saved from the worst of it. The creek behind us came up a lot, but nothing close to the house. We're currently cut off from everywhere, but we have power, water and food, so we'll be OK for a few more days.

Sadness for a lot of my friends who call Broke and Bulga home and are now facing a bit of uncertainty, and a lot of clean up.

The devastation has been insane. Entire roads have been washed away, isolating Bulga, us in Milbrodale, and further south through to Putty. The only road in and out of Broke is through to Cessnock, and the road to Singleton (pictures) will take weeks, maybe months to rebuild.

One of the families from my daughter's football team has put together a @gofundmeau appeal to help the four families from Broke in the team who have been badly affected by these floods. I urge you to donate what you can, the link is in my bio.

Hopefully we can get into Singleton in the next couple of days and get the basics. The last 48 hours have been completely surreal.

I've had some odd experiences in the past year, but hearing your name read out at Guildhall in London during a graduation ceremony that I was attending virtually last night is up there.

Surreal moment.

Briefly toyed with the idea of turning up in person, but there was no real way to make it work. And I'm not overly convinced that all that pomp and ceremony really fits me anyway...

Been a while.

Super busy of late working on a digital campaign for the upcoming Federal election for a progressive organisation that's been a world away from wine, but fascinating and riveting all at the same time. Did get a midweek visit to the big smoke this week which meant nightcap at @thebaxterinnsydney 🤩

Also moving the @fwcellars stock out of the old warehouse and organising new boxes and all kinds of fun stuff which means I'll be doing more wine stuff which I can't wait to get stuck back in to.

My time management skills are the absolute worst...

Plus there's the whole @ultratrailaustralia thing in 8 weeks...

New Year's Eve I turned 44.

Super proud Dad moment.

No tasting note tonight, just something to enjoy before hitting the road to the Central West tomorrow for a couple of days.

Lots of tertiary here, but still good balance of fruit characters and enough acidity to carry it on a bit longer.
